Business Description

BottleMate™ is a cylindrical bottle opener that makes opening beer bottles fun and easy. BottleMate™ is manufactured in Japan and we only offer the original patented product for sale. It opens all types of crown and screw bottle tops quickly, with ease, is durable and small enough to fit in a purse or pocket. One quick push and the bottle top is gone! An inbuilt magnet even captures the top for you. It's perfect for people who just can't seem to get the motion of a traditional opener right or with people suffering from a hand injury or disability. BottleMate™ is available in 8 designs and we also offer custom printing using a pad printing process which transfers an image to the product using a silicon pad from a vector format image. Our promotional/corporate logo bottle openers are available in bulk and are a great way to promote your business, company or service to customers or to reward staff. BottleMate™ really is the ultimate gadget and makes the perfect gift.

How does your business make money?

BottleMate™ makes money in 3 ways: website sales, wholesale orders and custom printing orders. There are 8 BottleMate™ designs available for purchase on the website bottlemate.com.au. Customers can add the designs to the shopping cart and pay for the BottleMate™ via credit card or Paypal. The shopping cart system automatically keeps track of the orders and notifies customers of the status of the order. This part of the business runs on autopilot as the orders are shipped from a warehouse in Sydney. There is a button in the shopping cart that send the orders to the warehouse after payment has been received. Large volume orders (>20 units) come directly to me via email or the contact form on the website. I provide a quote and then invoice the client directly and ship products. I have developed the capacity to provide custom logo printing on the BottleMate™ which makes up a significant portion of our revenue.

Why should someone buy this business?

BottleMate™ is a great business for anyone looking for a side hustle or a way to supplement their main income. It would be great business for a first time entrepreneur or a stay at home parent. It's a fun product that people love and it's a fun business to run. BottleMate™ mostly runs on autopilot and only requires a couple of hours a week to run. My hourly rate for working on BottleMate™ works out at over $100/hour. The business would be an ideal acquisition for an enthusiastic, experienced marketer. Further work could be done to increase traffic to the website and boost sales. There is scope to improve our social media presence and invest in paid advertising either through Facebook or Instagram, Google Adwords or Google Shopping. Re-marketing and email marketing are also good options. We have approximately 3000 followers on Instagram with strong engagement. BottleMate™ is a registered trademark in Australia and the UK.

How can the future owner improve this business?

The future owner can improve the business in 4 main ways: retail sales, improved packaging, paid advertising and new markets. To date I have had limited success in getting BottleMate™ stocked in retail stores. We have numerous small gift and gadget stores stocking the product but the larger chain stores and supermarkets have eluded me. There is also scope to start selling BottleMate™ on Amazon or eBay. With packaging, boxes are fine for online sales but they could be improved for retail sales. Blister packs that hang on shelves would be good. There is huge opportunity to leverage the market through paid advertising, be it Facebook or Instagram marketing, Google AdWords or Google Shopping. The future owner should also look to further develop the UK market by increasing brand reach and sales.

Why are you selling this business?

BottleMate is my baby, I started it from scratch and it has grown to be a profitable and fun side project. Over the last 9 years, I’ve interacted with heaps of amazing people, learned so much about business and had heaps of fun in the process. I’m selling BottleMate as I feel like it’s time to move on and do something new. I work full time as an engineer and I’ve got two young kids now and the kids have taken over my study so finding time to work on BottleMate isn’t as easy as it used to be. I also operate a couple of other side businesses and I’ve got heaps of other business ideas that I would like to pursue. The other business that I am working on at moment is a belt that I invented – http://www.clickerbelt.com BottleMate has enabled me to have a great side income that I have used to invest in other businesses and purchase plenty of fun gadgets including photography gear, drones and mountain bikes. BottleMate also contributed to my wedding and honeymoon which was a great help.
