Learn Apps are simple iPhone, iPad and Android mobile phrase books in 20 languages
designed for beginners and tourists. We enable tourists and visitors to stop guessing how to
pronounce a phrase and learn by listening to native speakers. Each app contains over 600
voice recorded phrases, with written translation, phonetic spelling and helpful cultural tips.
Since our first app was launched in January 2011 we have had 20,063,700 downloads of our
product with zero advertising spend. By being early onto the various app stores and using a “call
it what you think” brand e.g. Learn Thai, Learn French etc we have established extremely high
natural rankings in the travel categories of Apple, Google and Amazon. Search “Learn
Japanese” or any other language we support and see for yourself.
Our strategy was simple. Initially, we replicated the physical phrase books tourists would
typically buy prior to a trip. By using voice recordings from native speakers we helped with
pronunciation challenges - or simply enabled playing it out loud to be understood. All of the apps
worked offline so roaming costs were not an issue and we were generous with how much we
gave away for free - so our customers loved us and rated the apps highly. All over 4 stars as an
To this day, all customer acquisition is organic. New users come from organic search traffic on the app stores, due to a very strong app store SEO built up over the years.
How does your business make money?
We charge customers $4.99 for a pro upgrade. Total revenue to date is £1,150,313.58 ($1,463,469.20).
Why should someone buy this business?
The aquisition of the entire suite of Learning Apps presents as an enormous opportunity for a savvy buyer. The organic app store ranking alone presents as an incredible strategic opportunity, as many of the apps outrank industry heavyweights Duolingo.
With 20M+ downloads, there are opportunities to increase revenue streams with further in-app purchases or in-app advertising.
The revenue base is incredibly stable. Monthly revenue sits around 5KUSD, with a few small spikes around summer. The cost base is ZERO. No development, marketing or hosting costs are required to maintain the business. And the product is so simple, that customer support enquiries are very, very rare.

Why are you selling this business?
Learn was built by our digital products team at Codegent. The quality of work done on the
product was extremely high. However, one of our other products, ScreenCloud, has taken off so
the team have all moved over to that. For the last several years, Learn has been in maintenance
mode and we took passive income from it. But the time has come to move on from it so we are
looking for a new owner to invest time and effort into building it up.
