Facts and Figures
|Month||January 2019||February 2019||March 2019|
MotivationLab sells premium coffee mugs and shirts online at themotivationlab.com, sunnystatestudio.com, Amazon, Etsy and Spocket. I also wholesale to some dropshipping stores. The coffee mugs are sourced locally in the US (I currently have 100 blank mugs on hand) and printed at and shipped from my home in Phoenix, Arizona. All t-shirts are printed on-demand through a third-party supplier in the US. The assets and equipment needed to run the business (and which will be included in the sale price) include blank mugs, a sublimation printer, sublimation ink, sublimation paper, paper cutter, and 2 mug heat presses. The new owner would acquire the company MotivationLab LLC, which comprises both the MotivationLab and SunnyStateStudio brands and assets.
How does your business make money?
This business makes money from the sale of coffee mugs and t-shirts on multiple online platforms, namely Amazon, Etsy, Website, and Spocket. 61% of sales are pre-made and 39% of sales are custom. A breakdown of sales by platform is as follows: 93% Etsy, 3.5% Amazon, 2.5% website, 1% Spocket. My average profit margin is 64% but per platform is as follows: Etsy is 71%, website is 69.5%, Amazon is 55%, Spocket is 60%.
PLEASE NOTE: The profit and loss statement included does not account for the discretionary expenses (expenses incurred but not required for the continued operation of the business). In addition to the net profit, there is inventory and equipment worth $1,000, and brand assets worth $6,000 included with the sale. With the discretionary expenses taken out, the net profit is $5,275.
Why should someone buy this business?
There are two brands included in this sale. "MotivationLab" which is our eCommerce brand with inspiration-themed mugs and shirts and "SunnyStateStudio" which is an eCommerce brand with trendy mugs and shirts. TheMotivationLab.com is built on WordPress with eCommerce functionality and a custom mug ordering form. SunnyStateStudio.com is built on Shopify and is set up to take mug orders. Both websites are valued at over $5,000. We also have a growing, engaged social following with 7000 combined followers and 5000 on Instagram alone. We have had more than 1175 unique customers since March 2016. All shirts are set up to be fulfilled automatically via Printful, reducing the amount of time that the owner needs to spend fulfilling orders. Our profit margin on mugs is particularly high at 64%. We have 5-star average reviews on both our Etsy accounts. No SEO work has been done on the websites and I have yet to do any paid advertising via Google Adwords or Shopping. The opportunity here is huge.
How can the future owner improve this business?
The future owner can improve this business by expanding the product range. Many more products can be offered through Printful including water bottles, sweatshirts, kids clothing, hats, tote bags and phone cases. It is easy to expand the product line as 200+ designs are already created. Water bottles can be added and easily fulfilled by the future owner as the heat presses, which are compatible with sublimation bottles, are including in sale. I’ve definitely underutilized social media marketing (especially Instagram) to attract customers and grow the brand. The future owner of this business will also receive a custom-made Instagram marketing strategy guide packed with easy-to-follow strategies and tactics. The future owner may also look to reach out to offline and online boutiques and retailers to place wholesale orders and setup new dropshipping platforms. All mug production and fulfilment can be automated via Printful, which makes this business 100% automated.
