Business Description

The Web Designer is a very profitable weekly newsletter with articles and resources. Our web design teams have high purchasing power. Smashing Magazine named The Web Designer one of the industry’s best newsletters to subscribe to! (https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2018/06/newsletters-for-designers-and-developers/). We have a dedicated and shared newsletter. The dedicated newsletter features only an advertiser or a group of advertisers. The shared newsletter features 1-2 advertisers in the highlights section while the rest of the entries are regular resources and articles. We built The Web Designer for two reasons: to create a web design property and to have a medium where our clients could promote themselves successfully.

How does your business make money?

We make money from advertising, both sponsored and dedicated. With the sponsored newsletter, we add a client's product in the highlights section for $165. The highlights section features two items. One can add up to two ads. We sold 24 sponsored newsletters in 2018, comprising 6 through two marketplaces, 11 directly via email marketing and 7 by including them in campaigns for our clients. We also send a dedicated newsletter for a flat fee of $350. In 2018 we sold 23 dedicated newsletters, comprising 17 dedicated newsletters through our Top 10 campaigns and 6 dedicated newsletters through two marketplaces at $350 (net). We could have sold more dedicated newsletters through these marketplaces, but we decided to keep them exclusively for our Top 10 campaigns, as it helped us focus more on our client work. Our editor is a freelancer paid per edition.

Why should someone buy this business?

This newsletter is fully automated and run exclusively by our editor, who is a freelancer paid per edition. There is a huge opportunity to grow revenue via affiliate marketing. You can also advertise your own products and services, if any. You can sell a maximum of 104 sponsored newsletters each year which means you could effectively double last year’s profits just by selling half of the sponsored newsletters available. The same applies to dedicated newsletters. The new owner will have a guaranteed income of $6,240 in the next 12 months as we've already lined up newsletter deals that are included in the pack. So we guarantee that, in the following 12 months, we will buy 15 dedicated newsletters at $350 each and 6 shared newsletters at $165 each. Our audience (USA, Germany, UK, France and Canada) have high purchasing power. No technical requirements are needed to run this business and I currently spend 10 minutes per week communicating with advertisers.

How can the future owner improve this business?

The future owner can improve the business by implementing affiliate marketing. They could include an affiliate in each weekly sponsored newsletter, which would bring a regular passive income. We have build a 'Highlights' section at the top of the newsletter which is visually appealing and integrates with content seamlessly. As they are not obtrusive, subscribers are more likely to click on them and read the content. The future owner could also increase the number of sponsored and dedicated newsletters There are various ways to generate revenue via sponsored ads. The future owner can add the newsletter on other platforms such as Syndicate ads, they can add the dedicated newsletter option on Thought Leaders and Paved and they can also email companies selling products or services that web designers and design teams would be interested in.

Why are you selling this business?

The reason is simple: We’ve been so busy with our digital marketing agency that we haven’t had the time to invest in growing The Web Designer newsletter. And it’s a pity because right now it’s all set to make even bigger profits… We’ve barely scratched the surface.
