This business is a small cash cow. You only spend money when you make money. (Please read all of this, as there is a significant event to note of a supplier acquisition, see the P&L by supplier to account for that).
Smileys started with a personal relationship with a small outdoor apparel company based in Pennsylvania. At the time, the company had a few employees, so when they had an opportunity to increase sales on eBay without hiring an extra employee, this business was formed (2014).
That was the original way to Drop Ship! We provide next day order processing and USPS Priority delivery to compete with the Amazons of the world.
Five years later, our eBay business has 1,700 total positive reviews. In the past 12 months we have 420 positive, 5 neutral, 0 negative.
In the past year we’ve gone from 1 supplier to 3 suppliers. We currently have 200+ products listed with room for double that.
We hold zero inventory (occassionally hold returns and relist them on eBay auctions).
How does your business make money?
Our business makes money by DropShipping lifestyle and hunting camouflage products. Recently, we began selling tree stands and hunting carrying cases.
Each supplier provides us with a Dealer Price. We decide on the selling price of each item. We are charged weekly or daily depending on the supplier.
95% of sales come from our eBay store. eBay listings automatically go to our Bonanza store. Shopify traffic is mainly from our email list and organic. We used to do Facebook Advertising. Sales increased, but the customer service did as well and I did not have time to properly handle it.
There is an email list of ~2,000 past customers. I use MailChimp's free plan, so I always hover around just below 2,000 so I don't have to pay the monthly fee.
I email once every couple months. A new owner could automate upsell emails to new buyers immediately to try and get additional orders. I tend to batch it every month or two due to the lack of time.
Why are you selling this business?
This was a starter business to help pay off student loans. I have since bought a larger business and do not have the time to maintain this business.
